Interaction Studios rolled out Chicken Invaders 2: The Next Wave because Chicken Invaders 1 proved to be quite popular. With The Next Wave, Interaction Studios took things to the next level by allowing the user to control the space ship with the mouse, by creating more than 100 waves, giving the player the option to choose between 4 different weapons, and last but not least, by giving the game multilingual support.

Interaction Studios rolled out Chicken Invaders 2: The Next Wave Christmas Edition to celebrate a very popular holiday – Christmas, what else. From a gameplay point of view, nothing has changed in the Christmas Edition. You still have to fight against the invading chicken, you still have to protect the earth. The weapons are the same, the power-up system works the same, you can play by yourself or with a friend, you can compare your score with the score of people from all over the world, just like the regular The Next Wave game.

From a visual point of view, a few things have changed:
- The chicken don’t lay eggs, they lay Christmas decorations.
- When you shoot a chicken you don’t get some fried chicken, you get mistletoe.
- The chickens wear Santa hats.
- Instead of asteroids, you have to dodge snow balls.
- In the game’s welcome screen you see a lot of falling snow.

The game also boasts a Christmassy soundtrack.
